Attorney General nominates Xavier Sosu, Clara Kasser-Tee and Dr. Bamba to General Legal Council

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has made three nominations. These individuals will serve on the General Legal Council (GLC).

In a letter dated 28th February 2025, addressed to the Chief Justice, Dr Ayine put forward the following nominees:

• Honorable Francis Xavier Sosu, MP for Madina

• Mrs Clara Beeri Kasser-Tee, Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law

• Dr Abdul-Basit Aziz Bamba, Senior Lecturer, University of Ghana

The nomination aligns with Section 1(2) of the Legal Profession Act, 1960. It also complies with Paragraph 2(1)(d) of the First Schedule of the Act.

The Attorney General also noted that His Excellency the President had been duly informed of the nominations.

The General Legal Council is responsible for regulating legal education and the professional conduct of lawyers in Ghana.

If approved, the nominees will play a key role in shaping policies and ensuring high standards in the legal profession.

Dr Ayine, in his letter, assured the Chief Justice of his highest consideration regarding the appointments.

What’s Next?

The nominations will undergo the necessary processes before final approval. If confirmed, the three appointees will contribute their expertise to the development of legal education and practice in Ghana.
