By Kumawood actress, Clara Benson is popularly known as Maame Serwaa. She has revealed that no producer has ever requested sex in exchange for a movie role during her career.
The actress made the statements during an interview on Onua FM on March 6, 2025. During the interview, she disclosed her plans to start her own production company.
“I’ve had the idea of being a producer. I decided to experience more. Even though I’m an actress, I know more about the job. How the directors and producers do their jobs, I want to also experience that.
“I decided to search for more so when I was in school, that’s the idea I had. When I completed school, I met with my management. I told them I want to start my own production. I also want to audition for young talents,” Maame Serwaa said.
Maame Serwaa noted that the perception about ‘sex for roles’ has discouraged people from discovering their cinematic talents.
“People have talents in Ghana but they are scared to bring themselves on board because of the things they’ve heard. People always ask whether it’s true that they’ve heard the producers ask for sex in return for roles. Because of that, some parents are scared to allow their children to start acting.
“The people and the producers I’ve worked with are all big producers. They have never asked for sex for you to get a role. They will never ask for it. I don’t know what’s going on. I am unsure about the producers who have come into the scene and made things change,” she said.
She said she’s committed to grooming talents to attain higher levels. She aims to do away with the perception about ‘sex for roles’.
“This is the time we need to prove to people that, whatever they are thinking is not like that. If you have the talent, then why not. We can use that talent for you to be like the starts we see on the screen,” she added.
