NPP directs members to cease media discussions that cause disaffection

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a firm directive to its members. They instructed them to refrain from discussing internal party issues in the media. Such discussions could cause disunity and tarnish the party’s image.

The directive is signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong. It comes in response to increasing public expressions of frustration. These expressions are from party members following the NPP’s defeat in the recent elections.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 20, Mr Frimpong acknowledged the emotional distress among party faithful. He urged calm. Restraint is necessary to maintain party unity.

“Many of us, as party members, have, on several platforms, expressed our anger, disappointment, and frustration. We humbly ask that all party faithful remain calm. It’s important for cooler heads to prevail at this time,” the statement read.

The General Secretary cited Article 10(7)(5) of the NPP Constitution. This article mandates the coordination of party activities. He used it to justify the call for members to immediately stop discussions. These discussions create unrest, negativity, and disaffection in the media and other public platforms.

The statement also reminded members of Article 3(5). This article enjoins all party members to promote and defend the good name of the NPP.

To ensure compliance, the party leadership at the national, regional, and constituency levels has received instructions. They must refer any violators of the directive to the appropriate disciplinary committees.

The statement concluded with a rallying call for unity: “Let us uphold the values of the NPP. Let us work together to rebuild a stronger party for the future.”
