The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has received orders. They need to shut down all websites promoting obscene and pornographic contents immediately. The House of Representatives gave this directive on Tuesday during plenary.
They maintained that the move was to safeguard societal values. The resolution was passed on Tuesday following a motion sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, an APC lawmaker from Katsina state.
It also directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to enforce the immediate shutdown of the websites in the country.As reported by The Punch, the House gave the directive during plenary on Tuesday.
Dalhatu Tafoki is an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker from Katsina state. He sponsored the motion. He called it a step to “protect societal values.” The lawmaker cited findings from psychological studies.
These studies warn against the inimical implications of pornographic and obscene materials. He noted that several countries had banned pornography. Mr Tafoki stated: “Renowned psychologists and sociologists worldwide have issued strong warnings.
They emphasize the psychological, sociological, and mental consequences of consuming pornographic content.’’ As reported by The Cable, the motion was subsequently supported by other lawmakers.
They stressed the urgent need to safeguard the country’s rich social values. They also stressed the need to protect the country’s moral values. If eventually implemented, the directive would greatly affect swathes of young Nigerians. These individuals take solace in several pornographic platforms like OnlyFans, Pornhub, XVideos, and Allaccess to make ends meet.
