Takoradi Technical University matriculates 8,933 fresh students

The Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the Western Region officially matriculated 8,933 students last Friday. This was for the 2025 academic year. They were welcomed into various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The matriculants have been admitted to various programmes. These include Master of Technology, Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma, and Diploma programmes. The faculties are diverse. These include the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Built and Natural Environment. There is also the Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences and the Faculty of Business Studies.

Other faculties include the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE). The Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology is also part of them. Other divisions are the Centre for Languages and Liberal Studies (CELLIBS) and the School of Graduate Studies.

Admissions breakdown

Providing details of the admissions, Vice-Chancellor Reverend Professor John Frank Eshun stated that out of 10,717 applications received, 5,982 males (67%) and 2,946 females (33%) were admitted. He further highlighted that 60% of the admissions were into TVET-related programmes, reinforcing TTU’s dedication to technical and vocational education.

Congratulating the new students, Rev. Prof. Eshun encouraged them to take advantage of the university’s resources and opportunities for personal and academic growth.

“TTU is committed to providing a conducive environment for academic excellence and global exposure. I encourage you to work hard. Develop critical thinking skills. Focus on opportunities. Pursue personal growth and development to unlock your full potential.

Out of the many applicants, you were selected for a reason. Now is the time to demonstrate your dedication to your studies. Prove that you belong here. Use the available resources to enrich your experience here at TTU. Also, leverage the career development office,” he stated.

Upholding TTU’s core values

The Vice-Chancellor urged students to uphold TTU’s core values. These include commitment, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and diversity. He stressed that these principles would shape their character. They would also contribute to the university’s reputation.

“As you begin this journey, always remember the core values of Takoradi Technical University—commitment, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and diversity. Upholding these values will not only shape your character but also contribute to the positive reputation of the university. Treat everyone in this community with respect and appreciate the diversity that makes us stronger,” he advised.

Zero-tolerance for misconduct

Prof. Eshun reaffirmed TTU’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and encouraged students to report any cases through campus hotlines. He also cautioned them against engaging in vices that could jeopardise their future.

“I urge you to balance your studies with positive social activities. Be careful who you associate with. Avoid vices such as drug abuse, alcoholism, promiscuity, and occultism. They will lead to your expulsion. Also, avoid swimming at the beach for your safety. Take personal responsibility—avoid examination malpractice, as it could cut short your time here.

Remember, your final GPA starts now. Attend lectures, rest well, seek advice, and appreciate those who helped you to reach this point. Be security-conscious and exercise caution around the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, especially at odd hours, and be careful with new acquaintances. Stay safe, and make the most of your time here,” he urged the matriculants.

The Director of TTU’s Quality Assurance, Prof. Ing. Ebenezer Boakye, sensitised students on the importance of staff assessments. He assured them that evaluations of lecturers remain anonymous. He urged them to participate without fear of victimisation.
